Spoked Handwheel Dimensions (DIN 950, 80 to 500 mm)

Guide ยท Updated October 28, 2026

DIN 950 covers spoked handwheels in cast iron or aluminum, rim diameter 80 to 500 mm, Type A (no handle), Type D (DIN 98 revolving handle) and Type F (DIN 39 fixed handle). DIN 950 is the wheel; the DIN 98 revolving ball handle is the grip on its rim. Values below agree across the Kipp DIN 950 handwheel table and the Ganter / JW Winco DIN 950 sheet, with 80 to 250 mm also matching the Elesa+Ganter DIN 950 catalog. Skipped: hub diameter at 160, 180 and 250 mm, the bore column, handle thread at 400 and 500 mm, and weights, because sources conflict. *180 mm is a catalog size not on the official DIN sheet. Check your supplier for critical work.

Step by step

  1. Pick the wheel size: Choose rim diameter d1 from 80 to 500 mm. Bigger wheels give more torque and finer feel.
  2. Pick the bore: Order the H7 bore to suit your shaft, plain (B), with a DIN 6885 keyway (K) or square (V).
  3. Pick the type: Type A has no handle, Type D a DIN 98 revolving handle, Type F a DIN 39 fixed handle.
  4. Check the hub: Hub diameter d3 and hub lengths l1 and l2 must clear the machine face and any dial.
  5. Check the handle thread: The rim is tapped for the handle thread d4, M6 on small wheels up to M12 on large ones.
  6. Order it: Designate as DIN 950-GG-200-B18-D (material, rim diameter, bore code and size, type).

DIN 950 handwheel dimensions (mm)

Columns: rim diameter d1, hub diameter d3 (approx.), hub length l1, overall hub length l2 (approx.), handle thread d4 in the rim and number of spokes. A dash means sources conflict.

Worked example: 200 mm feed handwheel

A DIN 950 200 mm wheel has a 38 mm hub, hub lengths 24 and 45 mm, three spokes and an M10 tapped rim. Fit a DIN 98 E 25 revolving handle (M10) for Type D. Bore it H7 to your shaft and add a keyway (K) if it must carry torque.

FAQ

What is a DIN 950 handwheel?

A spoked handwheel, cast iron or aluminum, with a turned and polished rim, used for machine feeds, valves and adjustments.

DIN 950 vs DIN 98?

DIN 950 is the handwheel itself. DIN 98 is the revolving ball handle that screws into its rim on Type D; Type F uses a fixed DIN 39 handle.

Why are some hub diameters blank?

Catalogs disagree at 160 mm (32 vs 33), 180 mm (35 vs 36) and 250 mm (45 vs 48), so we left those cells out rather than guess.

Why no bore column?

Standard bore pairs differ between catalogs at several sizes (for example 200 mm: 18 and 20 vs 18 and 22). Bores are H7 and chosen to suit your shaft; confirm with your supplier.

Why is the handle thread blank at 400 and 500 mm?

Catalogs list M12 revolving handles but M16 fixed handles at those sizes, so it depends on the handle type.
