Clevis Pin Washer Dimensions (ISO 8738 / DIN 1440, 3 to 100 mm)
Guide ยท Updated October 28, 2026
ISO 8738 covers plain washers for clevis pins, 3 to 100 mm, and is now used for DIN 1440 (as DIN EN 28738). Hole, OD and thickness agree across the ISO 8738:1986 preview (iTeh), the Daniel Gruppe DIN 1440 sheet (ISO sizes) and the Wegertseder ISO 8738 sheet (sizes 5 to 33, plus its DIN 1440 to ISO 8738 conversion table to size 55). Older DIN 1440 tables, such as fasteners.eu, list different ODs and are not used here. Conflicting cells are shown as a dash. Check your supplier for critical work.

Worked example: 10 mm clevis pin
A size 10 ISO 8738 washer has a 10 to 10.22 mm hole, 17.57 to 18 mm OD and is 2.5 mm thick. An old DIN 1440 size 10 washer is 20 mm OD.
Common problems
- OD differs from an old part: old DIN 1440 and ISO 8738 ODs differ; check d2.
- Washer on the wrong end: fit it on the cotter pin end.
- Loose on the pin: check d1 max.
FAQ
What is ISO 8738?
The plain washer for clevis pins to ISO 2340 and ISO 2341, sizes 3 to 100 mm, product grade A. It replaced the older DIN 1440 sizes.
Old DIN 1440 vs ISO 8738?
The holes match, but many ODs changed: e.g. size 8 is 16 mm OD in old DIN 1440 and 15 mm in ISO 8738; size 10 is 20 vs 18 mm. Check which one your supplier stocks.
Why is the size 5 thickness blank?
Sources disagree: 1 mm in the Daniel DIN 1440 sheet and the Wegertseder DIN/ISO conversion table, 0.8 mm in the Wegertseder size table and old DIN 1440.
Why are some OD minimums blank?
For sizes 5, 22, 70 and 80 the ISO preview is unreadable, so only one source gave d2 min.
What was skipped?
Thickness tolerances, weights, old DIN 1440 sizes (7, 13, 23 and others), the size 5 thickness and the d2 min cells noted above.
