Linch Pin Dimensions (DIN 11023, 5x32 to 12x55)

Guide ยท Updated October 28, 2026

DIN 11023 covers linch pins with a spring ring (Klappstecker), from 5x32 to 12x55. Values agree between the KIPP K2014 table and fasten.it, and the BayWa sheet matches the pin diameters. Conflicting cells are dashed. Check your supplier for critical work.

Step by step

  1. Measure the hole: The first number in the size is the nominal hole, e.g. 8 for 8x42. The pin D is slightly smaller.
  2. Check the shaft: The spring ring must flip over the shaft. Keep the shaft below the c max clearance.
  3. Check the length: L is the pin length under the head. It must pass fully through the shaft.
  4. Fit it: Push the pin through the cross hole and snap the ring down over the shaft end.
  5. Inspect: Replace pins with a loose or bent ring.

DIN 11023 linch pin dimensions (mm)

Columns: size, pin diameter D, length L, ring clearance c max (B), bow b1 max, b2 max, wire d min, height h max.

Worked example: 8 mm cross hole

An 8 mm hole takes the 8x42 linch pin (7.5 mm pin, 42 mm long). The ring needs a shaft that fits under its 52 mm clearance.

Common problems

FAQ

What is DIN 11023?

The linch pin (Klappstecker or Klappsplint), with a spring ring that snaps over the shaft. It is common on tractor linkages and trailers.

Linch pin or R-clip?

A linch pin locks more positively and suits farm and trailer pins. An R-clip (DIN 11024) is cheaper and quicker.

Why are some cells dashed?

KIPP and fasten.it disagree on b2 for 6x42 (9 vs 8) and on d min for 12x45 (3.6 vs 6.3), and fasten.it misprints d min for 10x45. Those cells are dashed.

Why no 17x60 or 21x45?

17x60 appears only on fasten.it and 21x45 only in KIPP notes, so we left them out.

What was skipped?

The k column (fasten.it only), D tolerances, 17x60 and 21x45.
