Step by step

  1. Find the thread: Pick the row for your tapped hole, M2 to M10.
  2. Check the grip: dk is the knurl diameter, e.g. 24 mm for M6.
  3. Check the head height: h is the full head with collar, e.g. 15 mm for M6; k is the knurled band.
  4. Pick the length: Length l is measured under the collar; the thread usually runs up to the collar.

Hand-tightened screws on covers, guards, fixtures and instruments that are opened often.

DIN 464 is the high type with a collar (ds) under the knurl; DIN 653 is the low type without a tall collar.

Is there a slot in the head?

DIN 464 heads are plain knurled; some suppliers sell a slotted variant, so check the listing.
