Angled Ball Joint Dimensions (DIN 71802, Ball 8 to 19 mm)
Guide ยท Updated October 28, 2026
DIN 71802 covers angled ball joints (a DIN 71805 socket on a DIN 71803 ball stud), ball diameter 8 to 19 mm. Values agree across Ganter, Elesa+Ganter, JW Winco and RCS Products tables. Pull-off force is the minimum without safety catch.

Step by step
- Pick the ball size: Choose d1 by load and rod thread, e.g. 13 mm for M8.
- Check the threads: d2 is the socket thread (right or left hand), d3 the ball stud thread on type C.
- Check the space: l4 is the socket length and d6 the body diameter; allow swing room for the angle.
- Pick the type: C threaded stud, B plain rivet stud; S adds a safety catch.

Worked example: 13 mm joint on an M8 rod
A DIN 71802 13 M8 joint has a 19.3 mm body, 30 mm socket length, at least 14 mm of thread in the socket and an 11 mm spanner flat. It holds at least 60 N pull-off before the ball pops out.
Common problems
- Ball pops out: add the safety catch or step up a size.
- Joint binds: the swing angle is limited; check the linkage geometry.
- Rod loosens: use a lock nut; left hand d2 threads allow turnbuckle adjustment.
FAQ
What is DIN 71802 used for?
Angled ball joints for linkages, gas springs and control rods where the rod and lever are not in line.
What is in a DIN 71802 joint?
A DIN 71805 ball socket and a DIN 71803 ball stud, held by a circlip, with a hex nut.
How far can it swing?
About 18 degrees without safety catch and 15 degrees with one, per Elesa+Ganter.
Why are B type stud lengths not shown?
Rivet stud lengths l2 vary by supplier option (e.g. 4 or 7.5 mm at size 8), so check the listing.
